He was a German chemist and industrialist who made significant contributions to chemistry over the course of his career. Schnell studied chemistry at the University of Berlin and received his doctorate from the same institution in 1940.
His research focused on the development of new polymers and their properties. He was also involved in the development of thermoplastic elastomers, a type of synthetic rubber. He also investigated the structure and properties of polymer materials and their use in industry.
In 1950, Schnell founded his own company, Schnell Chemie GmbH, which quickly became one of the leading chemical companies in Germany. The company specialized in the production of polymers and was responsible for the development of many new types of synthetic polymers, such as:
1. polyurethane (PU)
2. polyacrylate (PA)
3. polypropylene (PP)
4. polyethylene (PE)
Schnell was an active member of the German Chemical Society and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC). He received numerous awards and honors during his career, including the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 1969.
